In Mild Mishaps in the Wild West, futuristic vignettes unfold across America’s most iconic landscapes - vast, luminous, undeniably beautiful. But beauty here is never untouched. Each piece layers decay, detritus, and absurdist moments into these pristine vistas: small catastrophes, mundane follies, the flotsam of excess accumulating in the wilderness. A visual punchline delivered against a backdrop of geological scale.
The collection operates in productive contradiction. The work is playful - presented with humor, even lightness - yet each piece carries the weight of its themes: climate transformation, the collision of American leisure culture with ecological consequence, the swirling anxiety beneath the surface of contemporary excess. Absurdism becomes the language for articulating what rational discourse often fails to capture: the surreal gap between the beauty we’re destroying and our casual indifference to it.
What emerges is a meditation on generational perspective - work rooted in a cultural moment defined by frivolity and abundance, now observed through an adult understanding of stakes and trajectory. The fun doesn’t diminish the seriousness; it deepens it. Laughter and dread are not opposites here. They’re companions.

Artist Bio
Anthony Sylvester is a filmmaker and visual artist with nearly two decades of experience working across commercial, music, and experimental forms. His practice has included collaborations on large-scale projects with Nike, Converse, Katy Perry, Yonex, Comcast, ESPN, YouTube, Daft Punk, and Coinbase, as well as directing music videos for major record labels Warner Music, Sony, Capitol, and Atlantic Records.
Guided by a curiosity for forward-leaning techniques and a long-standing devotion to analog and retro technologies, his work often sits at the intersection of innovation and memory. Over the years, this approach has contributed to a number of culturally resonant projects, from the festival-award-winning experimental short Subtunes to music videos for artists including Yaeji, JPEGMAFIA, and Channel Tres.
He currently creates content full-time at Base, as Content Video Director.
